RSPCA statistics reveal around 5,000 dogs each year are injured or killed in Australia as a result of falling from a moving vehicle.
The most common injuries dogs face from falling from moving vehicles are broken legs, gravel rash from their skin scraping against the road, and burnt skin if the car is traveling at fast speed.
To reduce this risk to dogs, drivers with unrestrained dogs can face fines of more than $400 in New South Wales, up to $500 in Victoria and Tasmania and $750 in South Australia.
The fines increase to $5500 in New South Wales under the Animal Welfare Act 1992 if the dog is injured or six months in jail.
Whilst the ACT, Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia have no laws directly enforcing the use of restraints on dogs, it is unlawful to transport dogs in any way likely to cause unnecessary harm.
These fines range between $100 in the Northern Territory, $22,500 in Queensland and $50,000 in Western Australia.
The EzyDog Seatbelt Restraint provides a cheap, easy way for drivers to keep their dogs safe and avoid the hefty fines.
The seatbelt slides into the restraint, which clips to a harness or collar to keep pups in one place.
The EzyDog Seatbelt Restraint is also available for free with the EzyDog Chestplate Harness.
The harness features a foam rubber EVA Chest Plate to keep the load of the dog spread evenly across the dog’s chest. This makes the harness more comfortable, and safe for dogs.
The EzyDog Harness comes in six sizes, and is both adjustable and easy to fit.
The Rust Proof Welded Stainless Steel D-ring is used for attaching leashes when walking and sporting.
For enhanced visibility at night the EzyDog Harness also features light reflective stitching.
The EzyDog Harness and EzyDog Seatbelt Restraint provide a much cheaper alternative to the fines for driving with an unrestrained dog.
The restraints offer much better safety and support to ensure your dog doesn’t make the RSPCA injuries or death toll reach 5001.
