Handy hint:
If you have a dog that thinks it's part-otter or part-rat and likes to gnaw things, then spray the vulnerable parts of the dog house (corners, rails and door edges) with Bitter Lime (or Stop Chew, a near-equivalent).
Dogs hate the taste, but normally do not find its smell a deterrent, so you protect the property without undermining its value or attractiveness to your little buddy.
