DAP - Dog Appeasing Pheromone

Easy: Plug it in, Turn it on, and ten seconds work can provide a month of Stress Relief!

The dog appeasing pheromone helps to comfort anxious dogs in stressful situations, from visitors, vet visits, unpredictable situations, re-homing, moving house, fireworks or thunderstorms, separation anxiety, and coping with strangers.

Also helps establish puppies into their new environment, as well as destruction, vocalisation, house soiling and excessive licking.

The pheromones calm the dog/puppy at times of stress and provide reassurance in unknown environments and when encountering novel experiences.

DAP may help in the following situations that cause a dog stress:

  • Separation Anxiety: physical separation from the owner.
  • New People or Situations
  • Moving or major changes in the household, renovations, changes in furniture.
  • Fear/Phobias: thunderstorms, lightening, fireworks.
  • Temporary changes: being transported, visits to the vet, being boarded.

Developed by veterinarians, D.A.P.™ (Dog Appeasing Pheromone) mimics the properties of the natural pheromones of the lactating female. Within three to five days after giving birth, a female generates pheromones that give her puppies a sense of well-being and reassurance, known as appeasing pheromones.

D.A.P.™ is an easy-to-use "plug-in" diffuser that consists of an electrical plug-in unit and disposable (30-day) bottle that will deliver the pheromone 24 hours a day. It continuously releases the active ingredient into the dog's environment and allows trouble-free treatment in a 65-square-metre area for around four weeks.

Pheromones are picked up and detected by an animal's sense of smell producing specific responses. By replicating this signal of comfort, D.A.P.™ helps alleviate fear and stress related signs in a puppy or adult dog.

Each vial attached to a diffuser lasts approximately four weeks.
Repeat if necessary.

In clinical trials with D.A.P.™, destructive behaviour and excessive barking and whining were improved or resolved by 72% and 85% respectively (according to clinical trials conducted by Ceva Sante Animale between November 1999 and November 2000, under the  direction of Dr. Patrick Pageat.)

D.A.P.'s pheromones are dog-specific and should not have any effect on cats.
Feliway is the appropriate product for cats.

D.A.P. is not a sedative, it simply helps calm and reassure dogs.

It is odourless to humans when dry, and proper use will not harm children, adults or other pets. Plug diffusers into electric sockets in an open area most frequented by the dog: do not place it behind furniture.

DAP is also not a cure for boredom: if your dog shows destructive tendencies or unuual behavious due to lackof activity or stimulation, then we suggest you try boredom buster toys such as the Busy Buddy Twist and Treat, Kong Time, or Nina Ottosson toys.

It is odourless to humans when dry, and proper use will not harm children, adults or other pets.

Instructions for use

  • the unit is for indoors use only.

  • plug the diffuser in a power point in the room most used by the dog during the day and don't turn it off at night

  • place the diffuser near the dog's bed

  • don't put the diffuser behind a door or cover it in any way

  • don't put the unit under furniture - the vapour is oil-based and can rise and possibly stain furniture

  • the more contact the dog has with the diffuser, the better the effect will be

  • consider housing your dog inside if it has an anxiety disorder or is suffering from escape-related behaviour and place the D.A.P. unit in that room

  • consider using a garage (must be cool), laundry or spare room as a den for the dog

  • one diffuser lasts for approximately four weeks and covers an area of 50 - 70 square metres.

  • the vapour produced by the unit is heavy and will sink down to pet level so the height of a room is not a problem but the vapour will be dispersed by strong breezes

  • the pheromone has no effect on humans: it is species specific.

Please note:
We do not send this product outside Australia.

There is also a DAP Collar - we are frequently asked if we can supply this, but it is not available in Australia.
However, the Good Behaviour pheromone collar appears to us to be every bit as effective, and we have heard of it having a very swift calming effect on dogs in stressful social situationsin crowded places in particular.
